Midnight Bucket Brigade:
You just never know when the phone rings in the middle of the night just what will be asked of you. Wheeler Painting and Restoration Services offers 24/7 hour emergency services for “issues” that come up and need immediate attention. Emergency board-up services due to a car driving through the front of a facility or the windows being broken out of a home. Or maybe it’s a water intrusion situation where there is standing water in the facility – regardless of the situation our crew responds and takes action to get your home or facility back in working order.
Several years ago, we received a call in the middle of the night on Thanksgiving. Of course, this was a 4 day holiday weekend that everyone in the company was looking forward to the long weekend. The call came in and it was one of our bank clients. An exterior storm drain had backed-up and now there was a foot and a half of standing water in the basement of the facility. Contents was damaged, flooring was ruined and all that water needed to be pumped up and out before any dry-out or restoration work could begin. Since it was the holiday weekend, it was very difficult to locate an available Vactor truck to come out and assist with their high-powered vacuum system to remove the large volume of water, quickly and effectively.
After several calls, it became evident that it would be a good portion of the day before our crew would receive assistance from a Vactor truck. Our team knew the only way to get the water out was to start removing it… with buckets. This was not efficient and to complicate the situation there was an exterior stairwell, approximately 20 steps, straight up. Two buckets per guy, hour by hour, the crew did make sizable dent before the Vactor truck showed up to finish up the job. With the bulk of the “heavy lifting” done, the Vactor truck made quick work of what was left of the water that needed to be removed. After the water was gone, the crew changed gears and began the demo of damaged materials before setting up the dry-out equipment. The mindset of the crew to do whatever it takes to get the job done (and under less than desirable conditions) demonstrates their level of professionalism and dedication to the task at hand.
No matter what the project entails, we are the right choice for the job. A quick trip to Home Depot to purchase tall rubber boots and the signature Home Depot orange buckets and our bucket brigade was off and running. We don’t always get a call for a “bucket brigade”, but when we do, we show up and get the work done. No matter what your project may entail, give us a call, we would love to be of service to you. Until the next interesting story in the Adventures at Wheeler Panting and Restoration Services, be well and do good.
